About Us

After the legislative foundation was formed in 1968, Kavango land was constituted in 1970, and self-government was granted in 1973. The South African Minister for Bantu Administration and Development officiated over the commencement of the Kavango Legislative Council’s first session in October 1970. The Kavango Legislative Council’s administrative headquarters were in Rundu.

Mandate

Rundu Town Council is guided by the Mandate of the Local Authority as provided for in Section 30 of the Local Authorities Act (Act 23 of 1992) as amended for the administration of Local authority affairs within the proclaimed Local authority area of Rundu.
